How often will I need to take the blue card course?

Just once, however you must requalify with the firearm you intend to use “on duty” yearly. The state does not charge for this yearly re-qualification. Instead, you must pay the state to renew your blue card endorsement, on your pistol permit, when you renew your pistol permit, every 5 years. The endorsement runs the length of your pistol permit. To requalify, you must complete a re-qualification with a blue card instructor. Goldeneye Service’s cost for re-qualification is $50.00 for the first 2 handguns and $10.00 for each handgun thereafter.

What are the costs in obtaining the blue card?

Below is a breakdown of the fees involved in obtaining your blue card.

a. Blue Card Training Course – Varies upon instructor (Goldeneye Services: $180.00)
b. State of Connecticut Processing Fees: $62.00

What will I need to bring for the blue card class?

You must bring your guard card AND pistol permit as well as payment for the class. You are also required to bring the firearm(s) you intend on using for duty, 100-150 rounds of ammunition, a holster, a sturdy leather belt. You are suggested to also bring footwear and company uniform, bug spray and/or sun screen, and a brimmed hat.

Is the qualification course for the blue card hard?

Our blue card training is an intermediate level course. Familiarization of your handgun is necessary and understanding handgun safety is paramount. Simply put, if the last time you handled a firearm was during your pistol permit class, you may have difficulty keeping up with your peers. This will also apply to any blue card class you take anywhere in the state, as it is naturally a more advanced course. We suggest going to a gun range and becoming familiar with your firearm before taking this course. If you are unsure if you’re ready to take this course, contact us OR schedule a private lesson to diagnose any shooting errors.

A guard card or Security Officer’s Identification Card is the required government identification in order to work for a security agency while a blue card or “Security Officer Firearms Permit” is an endorsement on your current pistol permit that allows you to work, for a security agency, as an armed guard.
